Tit bit tips for fish keepers

An aquarium is a mini ecosystem which radiates peace and beauty. When maintained well it would be a splendid piece of decor. Fish keepers and aquatic plant keepers care for their tanks and their occupants with great care in a proper routine in order for them to thrive well. Here are some the best tips that can help you understand the nuances of fish tank maintenance. Go ahead and read on.

Alter routine according to the season
It is essential to maintain the day and night cycle as well as the temperature for the tank. During summers the days will be longer and so will the temperature. During winters the case is reversed. It would be good during summers to close windows with blinds. The water on the surface would evaporate. Hence the water level needs to be monitored and circulated to the lower levels. The winter causes the water to become cold. The apt heating system should be fixed to keep the water warm.

The mess free 10-15% water change
Keep in mind that beneficial bacteria have grown in your aquarium tank and a cycle has been established. If you remove the water and the content of the tank completely then you would have to start all over again, waiting for the cycle to establish from the scratch.

The water that is filled in the tank could be tap water but it should be de chlorinated. Chlorine can be harmful for the plants and fishes in the tank.

The fish and other organisms need be removed from the tank either. When transferring from the tank to another medium it could cause temperature shocks and also bruises from handling.

Feeding Fish

Optimal feed for fish

Fish tend to feed at every opportunity. Overfeeding fish could be disastrous for them. The fishes are known to have a good memory that can help them identify who brings them food and beg for food. They can feed and store them in their stomachs. This type of feeding adoption make them capable of going without food for days.

Toxins and decay would clog filters and dirty the tank much faster than optimal feeds. Fish that feed on herbivorous food would need two feeds a day since they have small aquarium tanks.

Cleaning those filters to help them do their job

A filter may be a chemical or biological or mechanical. Depending upon the type the cleaning methods would differ. Biological filters are composed of bacteria which break down components to nitrate compounds which need to be removed owing to their toxic nature. Washing the filter with hot water would be killing those bacteria. They need to be regrown which would disrupt the cycle of the tank.

Disconnect from the power supply to remove shocks. The filter should not be completely cleaned as it would cause environment change shock to the fishes. Hence the duration between the cleaning routines should be aptly placed.
